Major Orders are the lifeblood of Helldivers 2, and without them, there would be little purpose to the game. However, it is also hard to deny that they have gotten extremely stale and it is not very exciting to see the latest mission we have been tasked with because ultimately it doesn’t matter, and it looks like other players are starting to realize this too.

U/Darth_Jupiter took to Reddit to discuss the fact that Major Orders in Helldivers 2 don’t matter at all saying “Why did we bother to cut the bots in half? Liberate 3 extra planets only to then do a bug Major Order and let them recover what we took from them?”

This is something I have touched upon in the past, which did cause a heated debate across parts of social media. In a post from June 2024, I detailed how out of the previous 6 Helldivers 2 Major Orders that focused on the Automatons, 5 of them had no long-term impact on the Galactic War, mainly because “we have not had a single victory that we can proudly claim as ours because of how short-lived and irrelevant they all are. This was in stark contrast to Terminid-focused Major Orders that have had a long-term effect, including the destruction of Meridia which is now a black hole that sits in the galaxy.

Back to the Reddit post in question, the user went on to state that our effects in the Andromeda Sector are already being undone saying “Choepessa IV is lost, and we just received a message they will soon restore their defenses. Did you expect people to keep fighting on the bot front with a bug MO active? A few have but it amounted to nothing.”

They then wrapped up the post saying “I follow MO’s because I like to think I’m contributing to a narrative aimed towards victory. But I’m questioning the intentions of the game master, the decisions make little sense to me. I honestly feel like I’m wasting my time due to “high command” incompetence.”

I think it is hard to deny that the Major Orders in Helldivers 2 have little impact on the story on a long-term basis, outside of the odd few that may unlock Stratagems or the black hole event. It does seem that due to the overwhelming success of the game, players have exhausted all of the content much faster than Arrowhead Game Studios may have anticipated, which now has left them playing catch-up as they try and release new content and give players reasons to come back to the game. Hopefully, with the Escalation of Freedom update, this will be the start of the developers adding enough content to help bring players back because it is evident that Major Orders and Warbonds aren’t enough to keep the community engaged.
