WestJet has exciting news for travelers seeking sunny escapes: a new seasonal route from Calgary to Puerto Escondido, Mexico, starting December 12, 2025.

This weekly flight will run through the winter, connecting Canadians to the vibrant Pacific coast surf town in Oaxaca.

Puerto Escondido, known for its stunning beaches, world-class surfing, authentic Mexican cuisine, and lively culture, is a perfect winter getaway.

Recent Mexico Network Expansion

The airline recently introduced flights to Guadalajara, Tepic (Riviera Nayarit), and Cozumel, and extended year-round service to Mexico City.

These expansions reflect WestJet’s rapid growth, with an 8% increase in seat capacity to sun destinations compared to last winter.

Travelers can choose flexible, budget-friendly options through WestJet, Sunwing Vacations, or WestJet Vacations packages.

Leadership Perspectives

The new route results from years of collaboration. Javier Garcia Bejos, CEO of Aeropuertos Mexicanos, highlighted the effort. “We’ve worked closely with WestJet to showcase Puerto Escondido’s unique charm,” he said.

“This route taps into strong Canadian demand and boosts the town’s international appeal, opening doors for travelers to experience its magic.”

“This route adds warmth and cultural richness to our winter offerings, giving direct access to a dynamic coastal gem.”

Conclusion

Puerto Escondido’s appeal lies in its blend of natural beauty and vibrant culture. From surfing at Zicatela Beach to savoring local Oaxacan dishes, it offers something for everyone.

WestJet’s focus on Mexico stems from strong traveler demand for warm, affordable winter destinations, particularly from Canada. Puerto Escondido, with its surfing and vibrant local scene, fits this trend.

Collaborations with local partners like Aeropuertos Mexicanos also signal strategic efforts to tap into growing markets, boosting connectivity and tourism. Canadians escaping cold winters drive this focus, and Mexico’s proximity and affordability make it a top choice.
