Update: Sony has confirmed that State of Play is returning for June 2025. It will happen live at 2PM PT/5PM ET/10PM BST on June 4th, and, according to the PlayStation Blog, it will last 40+ minutes and you will be able to watch it live on YouTube.
While nothing is confirmed for the event, it’s possible we might get the reveal of Resident Evil 9. MP1st has leaked that RE9 will “revealed this week,” and, while everyone initially assumed Summer Game Fest, past Resident Evils have been revealed during PlayStation shows.

While Summer Game Fest is slated to happen in just a few days, it’s also rumored we might be treated to a State of Play event. Nothing is official right now, but the heavily rumored PlayStation State of Play for June 2025 might be announced imminently with beliefs of an event happening this week.
State of Play June 2025 announcement possibly incoming
There have been rumors of a State of Play for June 2025. This comes courtesy of Jeff Grubb. Following the reveal that there will not be a PlayStation event in May, Grubb posted on X that there will be a “PlayStation event in June”. Grubb couldn’t confirm specific dates, and they didn’t completely rule out the possibility of it being a PlayStation showcase, although they did “lean toward State of Play”.
Following Grubb’s post, there is now the belief that a State of Play will be announced on June 3rd. This is because on ResetEra, often reliable insider, Shinobi602, replied “happy birthday” to a user that posted on June 2nd, “It’s my birthday tomorrow so that’s obviously when they’ll announce the SoP”.
This obviously doesn’t guarantee an announcement is happening today, but, as stated by PushSuqare, “Shinobi doesn’t tease too much these days, so when he does post, it attracts a lot of attention — and this particular reply has plenty of people thinking that a State of Play is imminent”.
If the announcement does happen today, the belief is that the State of Play will occur on Thursday, June 5th, although there is always the possibility of Wednesday instead. We will just have to wait and see if an announcement is made either today or tomorrow for a Thursday State of Play, but nothing is official right now.
Assuming a State of Play does occur, there should be a lot of emphasis on Death Stranding 2 seeing as its release date is June 23rd.
