American E175 Makes Emergency Landing in New York After Engine Failure

American Eagle flight departing New York LaGuardia for Nashville declared an emergency before diverting to New York JFK due to an engine failure on 2 September 2025.

American flight AA4379, operated by a Republic Airways Embraer ERJ-175, had conducted a departure from runway 13 New York LaGuardia Airport (LGA).

The aircraft was conducting a scheduled service bound for Nashville International Airport (BNA).

Shortly after takeoff, flight crew reported the aircraft’s right-hand engine had failed. An emergency was declared, and flight crew squawked transponder code 7700.

Flight crew terminated the climb procedure at 3000 feet, and a diversion to New York John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) was then requested.

The flight subsequently landed on runway 22L New York JFK, just under 30 minutes after the flight’s initial departure from New York LaGuardia.

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) issued a statement confirming the emergency incident.

“Republic Airways Flight 4379 landed safely at John F. Kennedy International Airport around 1:30 p.m. local time Tuesday, Sept. 2, after the crew reported engine issues. The Embraer E175 departed from LaGuardia Airport and was travelling to Nashville International Airport in Tennessee. The FAA will investigate.”

Flight data shows that flight AA4379 had made an on-time departure out of New York LaGuardia airport at 1:07 PM local time on 2 September.

Following the takeoff from runway 13, the climb procedure was discontinued at 3000 feet and a diversion to New York JFK was carried out from that altitude.

The aircraft conducting the AA4379 service to Nashville International Airport was an Embraer ERJ-175, registered N409YX.

This is a 12-year old regional jet belonging to the carrier American Eagle. It is operated by Republic Airways on behalf of the carrier.

It has been in operational service with the airline since its initial delivery from the factory in September 2013.
